INSTRUCTIONS FOR AUTHORS

Electronic Submissions

All papers and abstracts should be submitted online at http://dna13.memphis.edu by the deadline (see "Important Dates"). A successful submission will require pre-registration, a ready-made abstract for cut and paste, and a pdf file with the actual body of the submission.

Pre-registration of prospective authors

Just fill out a short form online in midFebruary with the corresponding author's login info (email and password) that will enable access to the submission pages for actual submission.

Actual submission

Submit online both a separate abstract and a pdf document containing the body of the DNA 13 submission, as well as basic information about the submission (title, authors, track choice (F/A/D), preferred presentation format (oral/poster/demo), and wheather the paper should be considered for the student paper prize submission.) The corresponding author's login info can be changed anytime up to the submission deadline.

Submission Categories (Tracks)

Authors may choose among three submission tracks A, F, D. Papers considered for oral presentation will automatically be considered for poster presentation if they are not accepted for oral presentation.

Track F (Full paper) - Traditional

Submissions of full papers will be considered for inclusion in the conference proceedings and should conform to the following guidelines:

  • The total length of the paper should not exceed 10 pages (11 point type, single spaced, with 1 inch margins).
  • Each submission must contain a separate abstract briefly describing the primary results and their importance.
  • Selected papers will be included in a volume of the Springer-Verlag Lecture Notes in Computer Science. (The formatting instructions can be found at http://www.springer.de/comp/lncs/authors.html.)
  • A selection of papers published in the Springer-Verlag Lecture Notes in Computer Science proceedings will be invited to submit a fully revised journal version of their paper for publication in a special issue of the Journal of of Natural Computing. (The formatting instructions and model document can be found at the journal's site.)

Track A - Abstract (one page)

Primarily for authors submitting experimental results who plan to submit to a journal rather than publish in the conference proceedings. Submissions should conform to the following guidelines:

  • The total length of the abstract should not exceed 1 page (11 point type, single spaced, with 1 inch margins).
  • The one-page abstract should describe the primary results and their importance.
  • Authors who wish to have their Track A submission considered for an oral presentation should include a manuscript, a thesis chapter or some other form of complete documentation that describes the work fully; the purpose of this document is to enable the program committee to evaluate the merit of the work for oral presentation. Only the one-page abstract will appear in the proceedings. Track A submissions not accompanied by full documentation will not be eligible for oral presentation.

Track D - Demo

This new category is intended for authors who would like to highlight a specific accomplishment in their research. The demo will consists of a video, an animation, or some cartoon form that can be comprehended in under 180 seconds. Authors of accepted demos will have 120 seconds to set up the demo and will have about 3 minutes to answer questions about the demo. A demo session will be run as a capstone in the last session of the conference Thursday afternoon, and only if enough submissions of high quality warrant it. They will be included in the proceedings and may also be highlighted in the local and/or national press.

STUDENT PAPER PRIZES

Best papers with a student as the lead and presenting author may be awarded prizes. To be eligible, lead authors must indicate the support from their research advisor at the time of submission. Recipients of the prize will be notified at the time of acceptance after prior verification of advisor's support. Some other student scholarships may also be available.
